![]() he Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act was passed into law in 2008, and required that manufactured products meant for children age 12 and under had to be tested for lead and other toxins, and certified to be in compliance with legal levels. The act caused quite a stir among family and small businesses that hand made articles for children, such as wood toys or clothes - since the cost of compliance would essentially put them out of business. The date companies had to be in compliance was originally February 10, 2009. Because of the confusion the act was creating for small businesses, and other problems, the Consumer Product Safety Commission granted a stay of the requirement for testing and certification for one year, to February 10, 2010. Additionally, the CPSC exempted certain categories of products from the testing and certification requirement all together, such as items made from materials intrinsically lead and toxin free (i.e. cotton clothes or toys, or wood toys). Children's books manufactured after 1985 are also exempted from the testing and certification requirement. All Nothing New Press books are in compliance with the law. ![]() dditionally, Nothing New Press books have always been manufactured in the United States, with paper manufactured in the United States, and with inks manufactured in the United States. These items have been lead free at least since the 1970s when the first laws regulating lead in products were passed. At no time have we ever had books printed in China or in other countries of concern. Purchase books with confidence, knowing your purchase supports American business and manufacture, is toxin free and safe for you and your children.
